KO Count System Blackjack (counting cards) HELP?

since the KO counting system doesnt equal out to 0 and equals to +4 does that mean you start the count at +4 for a new deck? for example if im playing with my family and we only have one deck and begin playing do i start my count at +4 or 0? cause i know the HI-LO starts at 0, but the 7's make the KO 4... please help!
