Skates too sharp? Too dull?

so i just got new skates and i went out for the first time with them and i knew right away something wasnt right. my right foot was slipping when i tried to skate and do my turns. (skating on onside ice) ive had my skates been sharpened too much but this time it felt different. since my inside foot was sliding on the ice was it too dull? my skates feel sharp though. and im not a beginner so i know how to skate. Any thoughts???
